magic oxymorons...

Today I wore my 1970s floral dress. As with so many things from this era, it is made of polyester. I normally avoid man-made fabrics, but this one was an especially soft kind, and I loved the dress... anyway, as I've mentioned here before, it creates a small problem: it turns me into electro lady! Static builds up, the dress clings to my legs, lightning shoots from my fingers... really, it's not ideal. But the dress is so lovely, with a pleated skirt, and a long bow at the shoulder.

The other week I looked in Savers for slips, and I found a pure silk pale pink one (thank you, thrifting gods) and a black one which was the right length and size. Looking to see what the black one was made from (no chance of silk twice) I saw it was an old Marks & Sparks one, 100% nylon polymaid (yum) and, apparently, cling resist anti-static. Nylon anti-static? Surely not. But I need a slip under this dress, and thought I'd give it a try... and my goodness, it works! Nanna knows best sometimes...

It is still pretty cold here, but I almost didn't need my leather jacket today. Almost. It is still (still!) really windy, but it is nice seeing the blossoms float around. And I am so happy I can wear this dress zap-free!

You have a dress that turns you into a lightning-bolt-shooting superhero! That is awesome. You look lovely. The weather's pretty grim here as well - grr!

This is by far one of my favorites. Not only is the dress super-cute, but it also gives you magical powers! No fair . . .
oh, and when you finish creating your bows and what not this sunday, can you post them up so I can see?
Thanks :-)

The dress looks awesome - even if it's made out of polyester and I totally adore how you've layered the whole thing!

That is such a great dress, I'm glad to hear you found the static-cutting slip of miracles!

yay for finding perfect slips! This dress is lovely.

What luck! Man, I resisted slips for AGES just because my mom forced them on me as a girl. But they certainly can save the day sometimes. And you're right to make a man-made exception for that dress - it's loverly.

I learned that the hard way with needing to get a slip for some of my dresses, haha. There was many an embarrassing momemnts when I would not notice that my skirt had risen as I was walking until a friend so gracefully nudged me. And viola, the creation of the slip solved all the static problems! But I wish it had made me feel superhuman, I only felt red with embarrassment! I've said this before, but this dress just seems so Chloe to me... so lovely. And I love it with the jacket and sweater especially. Your layering skills are masterful dear, ciao ciao!

another tip for static issues...spray some hairspray onto your tights, it stops the static happening between the 2 fabrics!

i cant believe the weather still requires a heavy-ish jacket.
I love the bow and length of the dress- it's gorgeous.

Beautiful pics, I love the movement in the dress...which is beautiful, polyester or not!

And I know I've said it before, but that is the best belt :)

Love that dress!
But I am nodding my head at the man made fabrics!
Mostly because I grew up in far north QLD and it's so humid there that anything man made feels awful!

I am a fellow hater of static! It's terribly annoying. Gorgeous outfit, I really love the shoes and belt match, and the dress is lovely, of course.

This look is really gorgeous. The layers are perfection and the color of those shoes are really so nice with the tights. Too bad about the static from the dress!

there is this product you can buy in supermarkets (its in the laundry aisle) called anti-static spray, you just spray it on to the inside of your dress and it doesn't stick any more. it really is wonderful stuff, and may indeed solve you static problems!
