the new dress, early spring

Today I wore my new dress. It is still warmer than this time last week, but it has mostly been quite cloudy and dark.

I think this influenced how I wore my dress. Rather than a more spring-like pairing (with a lacy cream top and pale tights, say) today I went with black ribbed tights, and a black tee shirt underneath.

I spent the morning listening to the Handsome Family and playing guitar (I have a busy working week next week, so I am making the most of the free time), and this, too, affected me. I feel melancholic, but in a good way.

I really like this dress, and how it is good for Winter, Spring and Autumn... it will go really well with my rusty orange tights, but that can wait.

Just as I buckled up my shoe, the doorbell rang – Lula had arrived! It has a story photographed by Yelena Yemchuk, whose work I have loved since I saw those Smashing Pumpkin shoots years ago. That's my afternoon sorted – reading my shiny new magazine! No more Handsome Family though – now I have Fu Manchu. Next up is the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, which I thought I'd lost years ago, but found again yesterday. Hooray! It is SO so good, and makes me want to buy albums by most of the artists on there. Lots of things to buy tomorrow!

You are looking so beautiful by wearing this dress. I think you have very much knowledge about fashionable dresses..

ARGH!!!! How did you subscribe to Lula in Australia? Tell me how! No newsagent in Canberra will get it. I have Mr Smaggle looking for it New York as we speak!

You look lovely in that dress (and I think that cut-out could cause some serious trouble for a lesser being). Enjoy your mellow afternoon!

I love the colour of your bag with the grey of your outfit, and I'd love to get some rusty orange tights; I think they look amazing when paired with bright blue!

Your heels are really sweet, where did you get those ones from, if I may ask?

i love this dress on you. The way you did the black t-shirt underneath was very clever.

Beautiful outfit! I feel the same way when I get dressed - I wish the sun would come out more often like it has today - it definitely puts me in a better mood and my clothes become more "spring-like".

I love this issue of Lula, it's one of the best ones i think :D

hemant: thanks very much!

Lady Smaggle: I thought I was in the same boat, but you can subscribe through the magnation website (www.magnation.com). Good luck! :)

skye: thanks! (The cut out could be frightening – imagine nothing underneath? Some just might.. not me!) :D

Shannon: thanks very much. Hopefully it won't get too hot too quickly here so I can wear ita fe more times!

Nita-Karoliina: thanks, it is really snuggly!

*indie_queen*: thanks it is a good thing, practical buying, hehe!

Hannah: thanks! The orange tights are really fun. (If you can't find rusty tights locally, try welovecolors.com, that's where I got mine and they are really good quality.)

Rora: thanks! I live near houses in all different colours so I can always co-ordinate! haha :D

Louise: thanks! Oops, I forgot to list things. They are cheapies from Target Feb07, and are maybe the best shoes I've ever had... SO comfortable, can walk in them for hours... amazing, really.

enc: thanks! I might see how paler things go, too, which will be far more seasonally appropriate. ;)

Miss Karen: thanks! Doesn't the sun make the biggest difference to mood sometimes..?! I only have one other Lula, and they are both great – but this i=one is suer-good!

Lia: thanks very much!:)

Thumbelina: haha thanks very much! :D

the freelancer's fashionblog: thanks so much! I might have to go orange tights before Autumn (ooh how rebelious of me, ho hum!) haha :D

Mila: thanks very much! (I was actually a little... disappointed? with these ones... :)

Inside the Cabinet of Wonder: thanks very much! :)

I love those shoes too!! Pity we don't have target here. I've been wondering about this Lula magazine for sometime now (mostly in blogs from the states) and i'm intrigued. I love Franki Magazine, is it similar?

The Paper Doll: thanks! Lula is a beautiful, well-made mag with lots of nice photos of fashion that seem... somehow a little different? otherworldly? Really nice photography... less articles than Frankie, and more ethereal but still very intelligent and just enjoyable. I highly recommend it! It can be hard to find though, so subscribing might be a good option...
