paint them black

Today I had a lot of work to do, and lots of sitting in front of the computer means wanting to be comfortable. I also decided to road test my false eyelashes, which I bought ages ago, lost for months, and then found about 6 weeks ago.

I think this all came about because of the influence of the internet; there have been '60s posts on some of my favourite bloggers (Flair to remember's amazing '60s magazine, and Sally Jane Vintage's post on Francoise Hardy) and this, coupled with my love of '60s heroines (I am named after one, after all) led to today's get up...

... and I felt a little like a sixties chanteuse. I wore a man's (my man's!) shirt with a mini skirt, socks and flat patent mary janes.

shirt – thrifted, my fiances
pure wool black mini skirt – thrifted
mary janes – midas

erm, yes, tongue is firmly in cheek here, in spirit anyway

I loved wearing the eyelashes. They were a little odd at first, but I forgot about them sooner than I expected, and can also report that they stayed put – no stray insect-like things went wandering about my face. I like wearing dark eye make up, too; I just need some decent eyeliners (I don't actually have a good black one; my make up bag is clearly rather lacking) and a grey eye shadow, and I'll be ready to go go!

Oh my goodness. You look just like Francoise Hardy, except some how more amazing.

sigh, you look so gorgeous - false eyelashes look incredible on you! They only cause me hurt and misery. :(

You look wonderful! I love the 60s.

Wow, you look amazing! (not that you don't normally), if I looked like that I'd wear falsies everyday (or get 'extensions') :) I now wish I had done so for my wedding (wore some individual lashes instead)...

Gorgeously moody. Every single shot.

Oh!! Your eyes are positively erethral! How fabulously they are enhanced by the eyelashes.
I bought some eyelashes once but really fudged the application, then pulled them off in a huff - I just have no patience!
Your hairstyle makes me miss my long fringe.

Lovely style!

Oh goodness, how gorgeous!! Your such a little pixie and can pull off anything! I was wondering though--you said they don't fall off, but do they damage your actual lashes at all?
Ciao dear,

Well don't you look sweet. Those eyelashes are great- they don't look fake at all, but make your eyes look really big. You are really working the mans shirt thing!

e.l.f actually has a great kit little eyeshadow with white, grey and black for, like $2 at drugstore.com.

I've been wanting to try false eyelashes for so long! I might just have to do it now after seeing how lovely they look on you!

You look fabulous in those false eyelashes and the dark eye make-up. I look a bit silly with false eyelashes because I have long eyelashes of my own and they kind of peep out the bottom. Single lashes though work a treat (if I can ever be bothered).

You look so different here, and absolutely amazing. You really do suit the dark eye makeup. I love the colours of these photos too. I've never been able to get false eyelashes on with any success.

StrikeMatch: hehe thank you!

Miss Karen: thanks! That's no good if they hurt, maybe it was the type?

leah: thanks! Me too.

Brigadeiro: thank you! I'd be a little nervous of wearing them to my wedding, they'd be well tested there for sure!

flair to remember: thanks very much! It's actually not so hard because the glue stays tacky for a bit, so they can be moved... I can even do it on my dodgy-vision eye.

Nita-Karoliina: thanks! :)

WendyB: they are fun. I might invest in a fancier pair one day!

Sal: thanks very much! They were 'fun' as well, though – I don;t take myself that seriously! :D

Alicia: thanks very much! The tacky glue really helps me, as I can adjust after first attempt.

Thumbelina: aw, thank you! They didn't pull at my eyelashes this time, but I don't think I'd want to wear them every day; the glue can't be the most wonderful thing for the eyes :)

a cat of impossible colour: thanks very much!

*indie_queen*: thanks! Yeah, these ones are quite small (for falsies), it makes me want a properly thick pair!

Sophie: I should check those out. I used to love Bourjois because they had their own brushes, which for some reason matters to me (?!). I can definitely recommend trying them, it was funny blinking and what not!

Skye: thanks! Yeah, mine stuck out a little on the outer sides, and I put a little mascara on my real ones to push them up to their new friends... maybe big big flase eyelashes would hide the real ones? Individual ones sound amazing, and look great, but are the next step for me in terms of fiddlyness!

Louise: thanks very much! It was the stickiness of the glue that helped me; one shot quick dry stuff and I wouldn't stand a chance. :)

Oh look at your pretty pretty eyes! I wish I could get down with the whole fake eyelashes thing but they just melt off my face.

they look lovely on you i use them all the time as well since I have short Asian eyelashes haha

you are beautiful. and the false eyelashes look great on you. i've worn false eyelashes a couple of times but found them really distracting.

esme and the lane way said...

PorcelainBlonde: thank you very much!

nv: thanks! They do make a big different to how eyes look, don't they!

gemmabear: hehe thanks – but these pics are pretty edited! They are a bit strange at first, and I don't think I'm 100% comfy with them yet... I will wear them again, though!
