gingham summer dress

60s gingham1

I don't have a lot of vintage summer dresses. In fact I just have two. I have a number of 70s and 80s ones, of course, but that's it. Then again, I only really started to find them this year. I will keep working on it, of course :)

60s gingham2

This is one of the two. It is an early 1960s dress, so I'll sneak it under the debated V tag. I love it's simple shape, tiny gingham pattern and little bow details on the back. It is also a dress I can wear when it's colder, with tights and cardigans and so on. The skirt starts from small, tidy pleats at the waist and is very full, which leads me to my next point... I am thinking of getting a crinoline. For a long time I wasn't interested; of the two extremes I preferred the pencil silhouette, but I am starting to find room for both. I also really like this skirt, which reminds me of a mini crinoline (miniline! Ha.), but it seems to be sold out online... boo hoo! Another thing to be working on ;)

That dress is wonderful! I love the details! Definitely get a crinoline. I think it's due to Mad Men, but I too am finally seeing the beauty in a full skirt recently.

Ms. B: thank you :) Sometimes I like little details like that, instead of my normal bright contrasts and the like.

Ooh, I just bought a crinoline!! I to was undecided whether I'd actually get enough wear out of it, but decided to do it. Haven't worn it yet but hope to tomorrow :)

It's lovely! I think I need a crinoline, too. I don't have any vintage winter dresses, so I'm waiting for the summer, when I'll be able to wear vintage dresses again..

In white. It looks kind of ratty on the website (terrible photo) but is quite nice in real life. Its got just the right amount of 'puff' for everyday wear and has good flounce ;-) Fits just right under my vintage dresses and helps with some that are a bit sheer.
Definitely an important part of my wardrobe especially in winter! :-D

Beautiful as always Marianne. Such a lovely dress. One day I hope to take photos as gorgeous as the ones you take! I am so hopeless with my camera. Oh and also with formatting my blog - I still have no idea how to have bigger pictures on it! x

The little bow at the base of the neck is so cute! My collection of 'true' vintage is small as well - it's too expensive to do a total wardrobe overhaul all at once. I'd love a crinoline, but I hear they tend to go 'flat' after a while, which is seriously putting me off buying one. Who wants to pay that much for a piece of clothing that won't do what it is supposed to do for more than 6 months?

Definitely get a crinoline! There's something about a big skirt that feels so fun and feminine. Gorgeous dress from a great era in fashion, and the red lipstick and nail polish compliment the outfit perfectly!

perfect dress from the 50's I'm looking for one like that too, haven't found it yet. The other day I bought through Etsy too a perfect black dress from the 60's with pleats and half sleeve and a small belt a little bit of like Jackie O style, so so perfect can't wait to wear it :)

I'm also looking for a pair of white shoes or nude, your are gorgeous.

This is a perfect dress for every season.
