More vintage finds...

Photobucket

I heart today's vintage finds.

I was looking at this fur shrug a few weeks ago, and tried it on and pranced about, and couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards. I was chuffed that it was still there. This late 1940s bolero has a matching dress, and both are not quite finished; it is going to be a sewing project for me. As you may know, I've never sewn anything large like this, and I think it will be a good way to learn. I am part excited, part nervous about this! The pale blue gloves are early 1950s, and the bow brooch 1930s. I love brooches, but they can be hard to find, and I especially love that it is not gold toned.

I will post the sewing project as I go. Wish me luck (and maybe give me tips!) xxx

edit these aren't from an op shop (alas!) but I have a contact, a man in the know if you like *tapping side of nose*

Well done! I have to say I find it increasingly difficult to find good vintage items at Op shops nowadays, but I do occasionally find vintage gloves for some reason. I also bought a bulk lot of gloves on ebay late last year which was fantastic - some were a bit stained but a few hours soak in nappysan and they came up bright and new(ish)! PS I would love to know your op shop tips - are there days to go that are better than others? (eg weekends better?)

Love the shrug. I always thought fur shrugs had to be worn with fancy evening wear. But I saw pic of a girl wearing one over a cute cardigan with belt, a-line skirt, black tights, and t-straps. I think you could pull that off too!

Lily: thanks! The bolero is almost finished, and the dress needs a fair bit of work and a zip added... phew!

Ellie Grace: thanks, me too! I am so glad I got it :)

Sher: thanks!

Eve: isn't the colour nice?! They will go well with my grey suit...

Brook oh no, aqua sounds so unusual and nice! Argh! I hate it when I do that :)

sinnlighet: thanks, it was a happy moment of my day!

Louise: thanks! ooh, lovely :)

Charlie: thanks!

Stefanie Valentine: I can't believe I dithered over it... I love it, it's really dramatic!

Mystery Flight Vintage: thanks!

sara: thanks! :)

Q's Daydream: hehe I'm pretty chuffed :) ahh, looking forward to Autumn...

BaronessVonVintage: thanks! Can't wait to wear 'em :)

Vanessa: thanks! Cool!

Saving Capulet: thanks :)

Wanderlust: patience, and knowing a treasure den... ;)

Faux Naif: sounds cool!

Eyeliah: hehe!

sueper: thanks! I hope it turns out well, but I will post the progress on here too :)

Blue Note: it's so big and soft, it should be good to go in a month or two!

Rachel: thanks! Of course I get it as we are going into winter... :) Layers!

Vintagesuburbia: oh I should have clarified, these were all from a vintage shop (that doesn't sell clothes usually, but the man helps me out, hooray!) and I've added that to the post now :) Hooray for napisan! I don't find much vintage at op shops either, and haven't found a pattern in good days or not... just the usual – the ones further out might just have the goodies!

PrettyDamnCute: thanks! Yeah that sounds cute, and I am looking forward to wearing it with my vintage dresses too. I need a rest from my summer cute thing!

Stace: thanks very much, and hello, fellow Melbournian blogger! :D

I love the shrug - they're perfect for glamming up a drab winter night :) I do need to know what color lipstick you're wearing, the red is so clean and stunning!
