hair – a back roll

(or dealing with my longish hair that really needs a good cut.)

I have this ridiculous thing where I don't like to do much to my hair in summer. Completely ridiculous, entirely illogical, but there it is. (Well, mostly illogical; it's very hot and I just want it off my face, and safe from the wind. Melbourne is very windy in Spring and Summer. But anyway... ) Now that summer is over (technically, at least) I can fuss about a bit more. To keep my hair up and out of the way (especially when it isn't set, or curled at all) I like to wear it rolled at the back. I like this with side rolls, too, but today it had to cope with head phone wearing (not to mention being freshly washed. Hello, fly aways! I also have an aversion to hairspray. Unfortunate, really. But, you know, I cope. I don't mind brylcream... oh ;) blah blah blah blah!)

So, once it's done, it gets the check:

Hmm, more or less survived. A bit of a touch up, and ok. Good. Bye for now!

oh my you look so beautiful. i'd be grateful if you posted some pictures while you style your hair. i have no idea what (hairpins?) to use and how to achieve those wonderful vintage styles with the big heap of hair i have. thanks again for the lovely looks.

that's pretty. i get you dear, i can't stand my hair getting to my face during summer too. so during summer, i always tie it in a bun.

Your hair is always wonderful and it's amazing that even your simple hairstyles are still so dauntingly impressive to me! How do you do it? It's even too much for me to brush my hair most days, but your hairdos always make me wish I had better hairstyling skills.

But how? It looks gorgeous. Do you use a rat? I got to gets me one of those! But if you didn't, please please tell us how?

Do you use a rat for the roll or is your hair long enough? And I want to know who makes your lipstick. :)

very nice. every time I have done that style I have little pieces flying everywhere and use pomade and hairspray, but it just doesn't work because I have very rivety waves in my hair especially in the back bottom of my head. It looks so great on you!

Thanks very much for your lovely comments. I would like to do a video of it (even though the thought is a scary one, too – my voice on the internet!) but I don't have a video camera machine thing. I might do a photo tut later on? Here are the basics, though, in answer to your questions:

– yes, just hair pins.
– and a rat.
– you can be pretty rough with the rat when it's pinned on, to tuck all of your hair around it.
– yes I do everything myself, though I'd love to jump into two of me and stand behind my head sometimes :)

Wind is the worst for hair, and it has been ridiculously windy in San Francisco lately! I will have to give this a try. It looks gorgeous on you! :)
