(cat) eye liner

cat eye c

I had been looking for a new liquid eyeliner for quite a while. I know what I want from one; it has to have a brush, and not a felt tip, applicator, and it has to be very, very black. So many liquid liners actually seem to be a kind of dark grey. And so many seem to somehow flake off. I had a few tips on good ones, and so I had a bit of a look...

(To complicate things, I recently had an allergic reaction to a liquid liner and mascara (remember when I had really swollen eyes & face? It turned out to be some new makeup). It was a real shame, because this particular liner was really, really good, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. It just wasn't good for me..! I am still not using mascara at the moment as the allergy problems are taking a while to settle – and I've also noticed that it was making my eyelashes break off, leaving me with little shorties. But, after a month off no eye make up at all – none, not even concealer! – it is nice to slowly get back to it. I am really looking forward to doing some serious eye make up. Soon. Soon!)

So. My new liquid liner is from Beauty Society. It is the one on the far right on my hand there – the blackest one. It is quite shiny when on, too, like wet tar. It has a built in brush – so many of the liners I looked at had a felt tip, which is so depressing; they're useless! It stays put all day and I am not allergic to it – winner.

I had a similar terrible allergic reaction to a mascara a few months ago. It took weeks to clear up, even after I stopped using the product. I'm glad to see your peepers are feeling better, and I thanks for the liquid liner tip! :)

Must give the liquid eyeliner thing a go - I use gel stuff at the moment and its really nice and black but its impossible to get that super fine line with the brush I have.

A few year ago I developed eczema, and it started on my lips and eyes. It was painfully at first not wearing eye makeup, but better than red itchy skin!
My fav mascara is Loreal beauty tubes because they don't leave residue when they wash off, and they don't rub on to your skin during the day :)
Can't wait to see your eye makeup!

Thanks M, I am only just getting into the cat's eye look now and I have terrible trouble getting the liner looking right! (I can't get a clean line) I will have to hunt this one down. Any tips for us novices on how to get your tidy line? Mx

Oh nice one! I love the bottle for this one too.
As I promised you the other week, I'm just finishing off the eyeliner video tutorial, so I'll let you know as soon as it is finished. :)

your eyeliner looks lovely! I can never master eyeliner like that I always mess up when I draw it on!

Must be hard with the allergic reaction, but thinking what the eye make up usually contains it's on the other hand not surprising. I'm scared it will some day happen to me, too, and my next project will be to find good and "natural" make up. Not that you couldn't get allergic reactions from them, but at least there are less chemicals... Hopefully you'll find something that suits you!

brush... indispensable. I do like mineral liners though - very black!

Your picks are gorgeous!
I quite prefer the felt tip liquid liners because I think they give me a more precise application over my lid.
I also experienced the flakeyness of an old brush liquid eyeliner I had, which was hard to remove.

Sorry to hear about your allergic reaction, but your new eyeliner looks amazing!! These pictures are so lovely!

Nice photos! I seem to have bad luck with liquid liners. Either they flake off or the application tip makes it too smudgy. I'll have to check out Beauty Society sometime to experiment with new eye makeup!

pretty! here's a secret: if you take regular a black eyeliner pencil and line the inside of your upper lid, it looks even better!

oh no, isn't it annoying (and horrible!) when it happens? Glad yours has cleared up too.

your gel looks great too though :) This brush does allow for a super skinny line, which is nice.

‪Hannah‬ said...
oh no, you poor thing! Can you wear make up now, at all? I do quite like the one Loreal mascara I tried, it was pretty good :)

Yep: draw with confidence! It makes for a steadier hand I think :) And to forget about making mistakes, because even if you do, it's no big deal; just dab it off when it has dried! Oh and to try different line shapes; a traditional cats eye doesn't work on my eye shape, for example… have fun :)

yeah it's pretty cute, hey :) Cool, I look forward to your tuts, they're always so good… and your eyeliner is always immaculate!!! :D

practice makes perfect… as do cotton buds dipped in eye make up remover ;)

‪oh, yes, it sucked! It was actually a well known Aus natural brand that I reacted too… ‬:< and I wanted to use it for the whole avoiding chemicals reason too (my mini eyelashes are trying to tell me something, I think!) I hope you find your perfect brand :)

‪om‬ said...
ah, mineral liners, I hadn't even heard of those..! Very black is very good :)

‪Chantelle‬ said...
thanks very much :) I guess different applicators suit different people :) Oh, and I guess any old dry liner will be flakey and gross… I just found that my felt tip liner kind of scrubbed off the line as I went, and wasn't wet enough.

thanks :) And it is finally pretty much better now; I recognise my face and everything! Why hello, eyelids, I missed you…

It seems to be one of the make up things (like foundation) where finding the right brand for you really makes a difference… good luck :)

thanks! But the inside of my upper lid doesn't show..! Inner lower lid looks good, though, when painted black :)

hehe no… only because the store where I went looking is still (still!) having a major refurb and is a confusing labyrinth of ghastliness… shopping in Melbourne's department stores is very, very different from other cities – it's awful here, and I just want to get out as fast as possible! So I couldn't even find the Lancome desk… but I love their mascara so much that I am sure their liner would be good, too :)

Thanks for that tip. I must live under a rock as I've never heard of them. I had a similar allergic reaction years ago and still feel a bit nervous with eyemake up. I was using Lancôme's eyeliner but have been trying Natio (the brush is crap compared to Lancôme's)
And so I've been hunting around for another. I have heard Macs is good and also Revlon's (if you can believe Gucci Westman who is paid to say such things) xx

Forogt to add I love these photographs as you very Emma Peel. xx

Oh gosh that is really really scary to hear about your allergic reaction, I've had one every time I ever used mascarra too, but not quite as bad as the one you had sounds :(

Really love your eye make up, though, I'm sure Babycat totally approves of it too :D

Oh no, even more difficult... It's hard to find the perfect make up...

Next time if you want something I can shop and post it to you :-) There is no problem.

That is a cute bottle!

I actually get on ok with the felt tip liners, as long as I can get enought product on the tip.

I was asked for an eyeliner tutorial video ages ago on my facebook page but I can't get it right, I need a better video camera!

Oh no, i'm glad your reaction has cleared up. I don't think i've gone without eyeliner for years, but my sister has never been able to wear any eye make up at all.

And your hand must be so steady! I just go for the 'thick' eyeliner look (i.e. keep applying until it looks vaugly even!) x

Oh you poor darling! I have ridiculous allergies too, so I understand how annoying that can be.

I am just terrible at using liquid liner, but you look just so lovely I think I might give it a try again soon.
