1940s pink floral dress

f pink floral l

These pictures are from a few days ago, on a work day that also involved a very early start and a fair bit of walking. We have had some warm, lovely and very spring like weather lately, and this particular morning was very warm and very windy. I took this pictures quickly, before work. For such a casual day I matched my yellow flat sandals (a one inch wedge heel is flat, yes? Oh, yes!) to the little yellow details in the beautiful print of the dress. It was, in fact, the colours and print of the dress that first attracted me to it – I love this shade of pink, and the soft floral print, with whites, yellows, inky purple-blacks and tiny bits of jade green. I actually thought it was a modern dress at first – or modern-ish, anyway, as in 1970s; I wasn't familiar with the fabric, which is a lightweight, very textured nylon. But now I know – it is a late forties dress, and it is complete with its original belt, too. I love my dresses based on their merits and not just their age, of course, but I must admit, I am always very pleased to find beauties that are vintage proper!

I look forward to wearing this dress a lot this spring and summer (although maybe not on the very hot days; light and airy as it is, summer here demands the lightest cottons and silks, and, ideally, indoor nakedness with the air con) and to wearing it a little more dressed up, too – with platform heels (black, ivory and pale pink will all work, and oh, you know, I might just have some somewhere, hehe) and maybe, just maybe, set hair! xxx

ps I think I should explain my somewhat defensive posing here; a wasp fell in love with me, and then moved on to my camera, while I was taking the pics, and buzzed about us the entire time; perhaps it felt its yellow was toning with everything quite nicely?

The colour combination in the shoes + dress is just perfect. They match in a lovely '50s sort of way!

The print is just gorgeous and the cut of the dress very cute! Would love to know what lipstick you're wearing, it's the most intriguing plum shade :D

I really like the way you picked up the yellow in the dress with the shoes. And, you know, gorgeous dress! I love that the design of the fabric itself suggests texture...like brush strokes. Very lovely.

Adorable dress! Love the collar and the print, and it's always such a nice touch to have the original belt to a vintage dress.
I'm totally the same about my clothes; I love them for how they look and wear, but the one's that are vintage and those I've made myself are just a bit closer to my heart =)

that dress is lovely! I really want to get some vintage dresses into my wardrobe. They have the best shapes and cuts compared to modern day clothing.

That is one gorgeous dress. And I know what you mean about the "true vintage" feeling-- it's so cool to find a really old piece in such nice shape.
I really love the background, too, with the rusty corrugated metal + the beautiful blossoms!

Really gorgeous! It kinda reminds me of a Hawaiian print but not tacky! I love the painted look of it. I also LOVE your hair. The fringe suits you to a tee!

Wow! This dress is just gorgeous, I love the typically 50s painterly style flowers. And I'm not usually a pink fan but this is lovely.

Great pattern on that dress... I'm a big vintage lover and there's always that thrill when you find something and go "ooh, I think that's original 40s!" Looks like a perfect dress for twirling and swirling around in.
I'm envying the sunshine here! It's now almost winter in the UK, and it's not possible to step outside the room without about 5 years.

Wow, you have such gorgeous style. Your blog appeared on a 'recommended' list while reading blogs via a reader and as soon as I saw these pics with the peppercorn trees and potato vine I thought 'I bet you're in Melbourne too!'

I look forward to seeing more posts.
