O Hai! A pink hair rose and a vintage dress and a very quick hello

floclo a

Well hello *waves* ! This is me yesterday; I am wearing my red and pink 50s dress with the shank buttons down the front (love!) and am in a pretty good mood.

Actually, this is something me and a friend have talked about. We usually are fairly happy and cheerful and all (quiet, you and you! Yes, you! I can hear you scoffing!) and, while we feel like the picture above, when we are walking about on our own we tend to look like this:

Scary faces! And I thought I was smiling a little bit when I took that. We both look a bit grumpy when really, we're not. Well, mostly we're not. Do you have this too? Relaxed face is cranky face?

Anyway, right now – now, as I type – I have a cherry pie baking in the oven, making my house smell all kinds of wonderful. I might even share some with you, visually at least.

Oh, and look: evidence that I have at long last put my clothes back in the wardrobe! Yay! Ignore the ugly laundry bags; they're full of stuff for the Op Shops. Soooo hard to let things you love go sometimes, but if they don't fit, they don't fit. And so it goes.

YES!I completely understand cranky/happy faces. I often get strangers telling me to smile---which always confuses me because I'm feeling perfectly content. How frustrating!

Yes! Whilst wearing me face I have often been addressed with 'Smile' or my favourite "smile ice queen, don't look sooooo snowy!"

You always take the most fantastic photos... even when they are just self portraits in the mirror!
Love the whole outfit.

Oh gosh, I certainly have a relaxed cranky face. Old people keep telling me to smile more! so I know I look upset when really I'm not.

Such a beautiful dress ~ and the pink rose just sets it all off with such a summery touch. You will match your cherry pie!

Well, I look worried (apparently). And there I was thinking about absolutely nothing! And I have solved the problem of letting things go that don't fit - if there's something REALLY special/sentimental (so Mum's cheongsam, shirts she bought in 1950s Italy, Nan's heavily beaded tops) it goes in the closet in my study. Otherwise, I console myself with the thought that I enjoyed it, and so will someone else. Joy shared is doubled :)

A funny thing about faces. I find that when I am in the city the muscles in my face absolutely cease up. I enjoy the city, and yet being surrounded by so many people, my facial expression draws battle lines, as if to say “Don't even try it”. Go figure.

Oh yes, I often think I have a smiley face then look in the mirror to discover I look foully grumpy. You don't look grumpy though, it is just a quiet little Mona Lisa smile ;) Very jealous of your cherry pie, yum.

Esme you have been particularly adorable lately and your online voice is really rather excitable! I know what you mean about relaxed face - when I'm driving and you know, everyone is genuinely cranky, I smile a tad, but people don't seem to know what to think...then I pull out the smile to see for myself in my rear view mirror, and it's somewhat like that second photo, a little confrontational and not what I had expected! Cherry Pie sounds wonderful, do you use a particular recipe or make it up yourself? Cream, ice cream or plain?

Relaxed face is cranky face? Sweetie, just wait 'til you get to my age (45), I have a much worse case of it than you. Vanity is such that I must take many photos before I deem any of them blog-worthy :)

Oh boy, my relaxed face is apparently such as seriously miserable face that complete strangers tell me to cheer up! And when I look at them all bewildered they look at me like I'm nuts, give me the verbal equivalent of a pat on the head and back away slowly. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's relaxed face portrays the wrong emotion!

Oh, your pink and red costume is the epitome of joy and sweetness!
It radiates happiness!
I know just what you mean though--I've got to work on radiating that joy all the time--it's a nicer way to the greet the day--no more grumpy resting face!

xoxo,
Gina

Yes, I have that, too! A former boyfriend said it was because I have "angry eyebrows." But I think they just have a nice arch! At any rate, people are always asking me what's wrong or telling me to smile when I'm sitting around perfectly content and happy (as if people typically have smiles plastered on their faces at all times, eesh). It must be the eyebrows.

Esme, you are gorgeous! And you've got like the best of skill with applying lipstick! :) When I try to do it it just looks like a five year old put it on in a dark! So I always just wear very pale shades that aren't so obvious, but you are amazing! You should do video tutorials on your blog or something:)

oh you look so beautiful!! and yes, relaxed face - cranky face! most of my friends say the reason why guys dont talk to me is because I look intimidating ;A;

I never saw you as cranky looking because your words always come off as pretty warm and cheery. I'm a naturally the cheery/mellow type so I tend to look happy, perhaps too happy!

I was actually having a conversation with my boyfriend the other day about the various faces that people make and how it really doesn't always have to do with their mood. Our example was people alone at bars or restaurants -- when alone or not interacting with others, we tend to keep a face that we think is natural and attractive, but in reality, we're much more attractive when we aren't thinking about how we should be holding our faces and are conversing with others. Your post reminded me of that. :)

I think your expressions are always adorable but when you smile you could light up the city!

I'm often told I look sad, I have sad eyes mourneful or something, it bugs me when people tell me to smile all the time I don't want a 'perma-grin'! Its just how a look it doesn't reflect my mood!

I have just moved into a new house, I have no clothes storage what so ever, the floor is my closet! I have never lived like this! I'm envious of your very sorted closet storage...I'll get there eventually!
