Queensland floods

While things are usually pretty light and fluffy around here, I can't go on posting as usual without talking about the Queensland floods first. It has been so frightening to see this disaster unfold, and so sad. Cars and houses have been swept away. People have lost their homes, their possessions, their pets, their businesses. Sadly some people have lost their lives. Many more are missing. The death toll is expected to rise.

Here are some ways you can help:

The Animal Welfare League of Queensland and the RSPCA are working to find temporary homes for pets who have been stranded by the floods. If you can help, please email

You can donate to the RSPCA here

Twitter has people offering help with spare beds, room for animals and such.

Like many people in Melbourne, I have friends here from Queensland who have family and friends in the affected areas. My thoughts are with them and everyone involved.

Its so sad, in additional to all of the individuals effected, I really feel for the animals, theyre so short & helpless.

There are some good photos here of people saving kangaroos, being towed behind a kayak & many of them in a tinnie boat.

It is so awful. It is all over the news over here in Norway as well.

My heart goes out to all of them. It was kind of you to mention it on your blog.

So sorry, Marianne.
It's good to mention these sorts of things online sometimes--we can't be light and fluffy all the time!--it's a great way to reach out and help people too.
I wrote a little piece on my blog this week about the tragedy that happened in my old home Tucson, AZ--also felt a little weird, but how could I ignore something so large?
Sending good vibes to Brisbane, and all over the world.

Hi from Brisbane,
I've been a long time follower of your blog, and in the time where there was nothing to do but wait for the water to rise, i browsed my favorite blogs in some attempt at normal life.
Seeing yours, i thought it was so incredibly thoughtful for you to mention our plight. Indeed it feels incredibly surreal - but all the good thoughts and wishes from all over, give us heart to roll up our sleeves and get on with the massive clean up ahead :)
Thank you
