blue vintage dress, collar and buttons

blbudr a

I got this vintage (late 40s? early 50s?) dress last summer, and had to wait until now to wear it. I think it is one of my favourites. I just love the prim white collar, the button and pin tucking details, the pockets on the hips, and the slim shape. It also breaks that silly no-navy-and-black rule, which I think is a good. thing. Dark blue and black look great together! These are from the other day, when it was very windy, which explains my blown about hair! There is only so much that hairspray can cope with ;)

vintage dress from etsy, red and white gingham hair bow from sportsgirl, navy heels with bows from alannah hill

This dress is PERFECT! And I'm not usually brave enough to mix dark blue and black but you're right: it looks great. I love the subtle differences of shade and the red bow. =]

WOW!!! I love that dress!!! By far one of my absolute favorites! I know I think that a lot with your outfits but this one is really fantastic. I break the dark blue and black rule all the time, I think they look great together. You style your clothes beautifully, as always you look lovely.

Where DID that navy blue and black rule come from? I actually only heard it recently and worried for a moment that I'd made a faux pas on several occasions... before remembering that most of those colour rules are made to be broken! They may help for style-deprived people who need a few obvious hints but people who can put together an outfit properly know enough to make sensible colour-combo and colour-ratio judgements...

Rant over. And your dress is divine. As always!

I have just discovered your blog and love your outfit posts. I like your blend of the old and new, definately the sensible way to wear vintage and you look so polished. To a semi-formal function on Saturday I wore a lovely early 60s cocktail frock in gold satin (with a few sequins and just a little embroidery) and my vintage cream rabbit fur cape. To say that I stuck out in the sea of black is an understatement. Not to mention there were two laddies in footless tights. Just what bit about semi-formal did you not get??!! I do try to elevate the standards....
I look forward to more posts.

Hi! No one mentioned that your nail polish matches your lipstick which is a nice touch. Is the lipstick MAC Russian Red? What about the nail polish? I have the lipstick, but I'm trying to find a polish to go with it. Many thanks!
