new old shoes

newsho a

I recently discovered just how amazing my local shoe repair man is. It is so easy to get cute new shoes really cheaply now, but, as fun – and as tempting! – as that is, it's also got some pretty major downsides too, to put it mildly. Anyway, some shoes can't be replaced so easily. I love these black peeptoes, with their ankle strap and perfect cone-shaped heel, and have been wearing them so often for the last two years that I thought they were ready to be retired. But the shoe man fixed them up good as new. Yay!

Ooooh you just reminded me I have shoes to collect. Phew, I'm nearly to the two week deadline. I often get my shoes resoled and heeled. It annoys me greatly that new modern shoes last approximately 8 weeks before needing before needing a trip to th coblers. Most people throw them out but I hate the waste so prefer to pay out. Once done at the cobblers they last years. Go figure.

Ivory: sure, I use the one on Plenty Road in Preston... I don't know how cheap he is compared to other shoe people but he is really good! :)

kimvee: it's really good for vintage men's shoes, too :)

Sarah, Tasha, Blythely Unaware, Emma and Lottie: I know! Such a useful service. I'd hate to see it disappear because of cheap shoe buying-replacing :)

Hurrah for shoe repair men!

My boyfriend used to work at a shoe place, and he was damn good at it too - really took time and care. I miss those days where he would take my ruined shoes off to work and bring them back to me, all nice and "new" with no cost or effort on my part!

Fortunately I've now found a decent substitute (for my shoe repairs, not for my boyfriend!).

I have a little bag of shoes that need to be reheeled or resoled. I think the total is up to eight now - thanks for the reminder to get them to Mr Fixit for Shoes!

I'm all about the shoe repair. They work wonders! I just discovered your blog and it's lovely. You are as charming as can be.

PS- I love your name. I'm no where near having children, but I dream of having a daughter named Esme one day.

Cheers!
