loop-di-loo (1940's hair do)

forties hair black flower

Hello! This is how I wore my hair on Wednesday. I had a forties dress to go with it all lined up, but it got really cold so my 1950's jumper stayed on. Words cannot describe how much I want to get my hair colour done! Either back to black, or ginger-y red. I am thinking I am going to have to be raven for a while... unless someone wants to do the red for me!

AMAZING job on the hair. My hair is the bane of my life.

I wish I could have red hair, it is very fav hair colour. I have tried literally every shade/hue of red and I end up looking ill. Can't wait to see what colour you choose.

You would look fantastic ginger, your skintone is perfect for it!

Yeah, it's tough to decide what to do with the colour - when a dark colour grows out the roots are sOOO noticeable, that's the problem! It does look gorgeous on you though, with your porcelain skin!

Love the look of victory rolls! Wonderful job and they suit you perfectly. Mine always end up looking like Mickey Mouse ears...
If you want to go red the easy way (less maintenance) try henna. hennaforhair.com has some fabulous mix recipes for different shades of red - or black using indigo. Easy to do at home, cheap, environmentally friendly and extremely good looking results :)

Please stay with black! It is so beautiful on you, mysterious and very sexy. The coolness of black with pale skin is the most gorgeous combination! And some people can't pull it off, even if they really want to, but you can.

Wow that's such a pretty look!! Red would look awesome with your complexion and so would black - hard decision to make - but it's easier to go from red to black than the other way round :-D

Lovely, lovely curls.

I find it hard enough battling the hairdryer, let alone doing my hair like that, sigh.

Miss Tallulah Porkchop: really? How annoying! I haven't had red for years, and it might be a few years more..!

Paula: I know what you mean about MM ears! Thanks for the hair tips, but I think I've got too much dye in there for henna?

Fiona Timantti: aqua would be awesome!

LandGirl1980: will do! Next week :)

Kesenya: thanks – and yes we must, I would love to! x

I love your blog. I am wondering why you find it so difficult to find someone to do your hair red. You are a little cheeky and have been dropping lots of hints lately about someone doing it for you! Why is it so hard?

esme and the lane way said...

Anonymous: haha I think I have been a bit confusing! Normally I colour my own hair, and because of this I like to think I can do it myself... except it has two years or so of permanent black hair dye over platinum blonde... so when I tried to dye it red the other day, no luck. It needs bleaching, which I also use to do myself but I can't be bothered to do it myself, and am not expert enough either, to be honest! On top of that, I have had more bad than good hair colouring experiences at Melbourne hairdressers, including the last one where I paid a salon on Smith St to do a SHITE job, who then told me I'd have to wait a month or so to 'finish' it, and so I went home and fixed it up myself the next day with dye from the supermarket. I don't want to do that again! ;D So any tips on good colourists would be welcome!
