my new make up essentials

makeup essentials

I recently added these to my everyday makeup routine. They are all amazing, and the best I have found of each so far. My happiest discovery is the Laura Mercier foundation – perfect colour, perfect coverage. Fellow blogger Ayr L'oxide recommended it, and as she has the most flawless fair skin I have ever seen, I knew she must be on to something! Shame about the not-so-perfect whopping great price, but when it comes to foundation, I know I have to pay for good quality. Luckily the great Australis eyeliner and mascara are so cheap, then! The Laura Mercier concealer is almost perfect, too – but it is good enough for me. It has the best texture and gives great coverage, but I just wish it was a tiny bit lighter, with maybe a little less pink pigment..! If only.

I recently asked on twitter what you thought was the best way to do makeup posts, and two great points really stayed with me: before and after shots, and step by step start to finish details. I think this makes so much sense! I love seeing how other people do their makeup, whether it's everyday or something a little more special, and I would like to share that too. Product shots are all very well and good, and I love to see what you use, too, but how they are used is the best bit!

I just took a potshot on StrawberryNet and ordered the Laura Mercier Pressed Mineral Powder and it's REALLY good stuff! I don't even need to wear foundation under it as it's got great coverage.

Yay for finding something so good - did you buy yours off SN too?

Have you tried the Kryolan Colour Wheel for concealer? I have one that's still going strong after MANY years - it's a little palette which heaps of different shades to cover red/blue/brown/purple, any colour blemishes and marks. It's all in skin shades so not one of those green or purple things.
Seriously it's the BEST concealer in the whole world as you can mix your colours and a little goes such a long way.
Hollywood Makeup on Lt Collins should have them and they were about $52 when I bought mine - 5 years ago! They last that long seriously.

Elsa Billgren recently did an excellent makeup post on her blog (http://elsa.elle.se/make-up/), easily one of the best I've seen - no rambling, just a video showing how she does it, and a helpful written list of products beneath the video. Elsa is so gorgeous!

Lovely! What color foundation is that?

Thanks for the tips. I was wondering how you got your skin to look so fantastic, pale yet luminous. Always impressed. :)

I am not a big make-up girl - my routine is fairly minimal - I am 29 years old and bought my first red lipstick last week haha!!

Anyway I SWEAR by Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. Ive been using it for years and it is just so wonderful, I have to reccomend it! Pricey yes, but it lasts a long time, and gives such a nice natural finish

Esz: I couldn't find it on SN, so I got it from DJs instead :) I hadn't heard of that concealer but it sounds great, I must look out for it!

Sleekit: it's amazing, up there with Chanel Lumiere but a better colour for me!

Jasmine: I love that video! I'd like to do something like that but I don't have a camera anywhere near that good :< I am going to have to think of a way to make photos seem a little lively..!

MJ: oops it's Porcelain Ivory. :)

Rusty hoe: Thanks! Makeup and good lighting really ;)

Gaby and Jane. ooh, sounds good, I must try it. You have amazing skin though so don't need coverage like I do! How are the red lips going?

Is that the #1 concealer? I have that and find it very dark and a bit too thick for use with the lighter foundations. I wish LM would make a lighter one as the little pot is adorable.

I switched to makeup forever lift concealer in shade 1 for eye circles and find it a much better fit. It's pale pink, fine textured, and you get 15ml in the tube, which is good because it's not cheap.

Elsa's video is fabulous, by the way. Wish there were more like it!

Munichjoolz: yes, the #1. I like the thickness, but wouldn't it be great if the colour was more i n line with their foundation?! I wouldn't want a pinker one, though. I'd need a yellower one to counteract the blue pandas under my eyes :)

I don't know if we get makeup forever here but I'll look... thanks for the tip!

I wish there were more makeup vids like elsa's, too!

Thank you so much for sharing!

What is the shade number or name of this foundation?

Thank you!

I find it so funny how we as woman change our makeup essentials like we change our minds. I myself change up my cosmetics to meet my needs and to try more adventurous products like Bronzer. I have always appreciated your everyday look. Glamorous and feminine.

Hahah I attribute my supposed nice skin very much to the Laura Mercier translucent powder!! While I dont get spots as such I do get a little red/blotchy sometimes - and this powder disguises that so well.

And I have only braved red lips once so far - and I loved it - will definitely be working that more often!

I bought the Laura Mercier foundation yesterday on your recommendation - thank you so much! I didn't realise there was anything out there lighter than NC15 yet I've been buying my standard MAC only two make-up counters down from a foundation that is exactly my skintone. It's wonderful! No more shall I have a tidemark with my foundation. It does, however, mean that my beau gets white patches on his nose when he kisses me but, ah, serves him right.
