my green bedroom – progress

green bedroom b

As you all know I have been painting our bedroom. It has only been our bedroom for a couple of months now, and we are prepping the floorboards previously hidden by carpet, too! Big work. Plumbing issues in our neighbouring bathroom are slowing down work on the floor, but the painting is slowly coming along. I am just really super picky with getting the colour just right! We have three samples up so far, and they are all close, but not quite perfect. I have learned from being here a while how much this particular light affects the end result. This room gets early morning sun, lots of shade from all the big leafy trees outside the enormous (full wall!) window, and not much direct sunlight at all. In fact it's a pretty dark room, despite that huge window. I want it to be cosy and calm, without being gloomy... it's tricky! Here is where I am up to. I am using that little vintage wooden and velvet picture frame as my inspiration...

Hi lady. You know you can get the nice paint people to create half-strengths of your colours. Sometimes this can get you exactly the shade you want.

I painted my bedroom "cooking apple" in my last place and it was the best colour ever. In the morning when the sun was streaming through the window... heaven.

I painted my previous bedroom a light celery green (like the middle chip on the front card in your photo of the three paint cards) and it was the most restful room ever. Still want to get around painting my bedroom in my current house the same color.

These are all such pretty shades of green! Good luck on choosing just one :)

Oh, I love a green room. My mother-in-law's bedroom is painted a color called 'margarita', which is awesome in itself, but it's the palest green. Absolutely lovely.

I love green, but it's so hard to get just perfect on walls! We tried to paint our office granny smith apple green and it didn't work so we went with this lovely chocolate brown. Your Great Green Experiment looks like it's going better. The top green in the second picture is my favorite.

How lovely! I have a mint green wall in my current bedroom and I find its very restful. You're on the right track I think! I believe is is Fern Green. Such a beautiful colour --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variations_of_green#Fern_green

I do love green, but I don't think I've ever had a green room. It's such a difficult colour to work with. Can't wait to see how you go with it all!

Rufus: thanks! I might have to do that, but I *think* I found the perfect shade yesterday :D

vintageveggie: oh me too! I wonder how one gets the job of name choosing? It would be wonderful!

Miss Tallulah Porkchop: cooking apple is a great name! MM, sun and green walls. Like being in a forest! :D

Cynthia: sounds beautiful! Painting can be such a chore, but it feels good when it gets done :D

Louise, Raspberries In Winter: thanks! I am restraining myself from having a feature wall..! Too much bad makeover shoes! (I won't do it, hehe)! ;D

Beth: yes, another awesome name! :D I love light green too. We painted our living room the lightest green. It makes me happy!

Tina: oh I know, green can go so wrong! Our last (rented) place had a bright, vivid apple-lime wall and I HATED it! Ha! I think I am getting there with the greens I like... :D

Sarah: thanks! It will be a relief to have it finished :)

Bella Blithely: fern green sounds just right. There are a few "fern" and "frond"s in the names of the colours I have so far!

Blanka: I'm not sure which one you mean? I think so far I had a bit too light and a bit too dark... hmmm, tricky! ;D

Sorcha: I know! I will :D x

Oooh, I love green inside !! A colour you can never have too much of. We used Dulux 'Garden Pond' in our house about 7 years ago and did one room in full strength and another in 1/4 strength to adjust properly to the aspect and light differences. Both came up a treat !! Good luck sugar, it is well worth all the effort to get it just right !! XOXO
