a different dress for a different season

lace dresses edwardian dress emroidery bodice ghost window edwardian dress lace hem chiffon room pinnic hanging rock dress
On SUnday I wore a new dress for the first time. I say new, but of course it's not – it is vintage, yes (as is usually the case!) but I also actually bought it about a year ago. I'd had the idea of proper old white cotton lacey dresses in mind for a while, and finally found one for me. This is an Edwardian dress, and the cotton is so soft and fine and delicate. It's really lovely to wear. I'd initially imagined wearing it in winter, decided it was a warm weather thing, and then ended up wearing it in Autumn! It is quite different to my other vintage dresses, but I do like it. Here is a preview. What do you think?

How ethereally beautiful. Few eras have ever known how to craft a white dress as perfectly as the designers of Edwardian period did, and I hope of one day adding a similar frock to my own wardrobe for that very reason. You look elegant and completely lovely in your white cotton dress.

Lush. Absolutely lush. <3 White can be sketchy with such pale complexions but you actually look gorgeous.

It is beautiful and autumn makes complete sense. In summer the dress would show stains if you're glistening on a hot day, and in winter it would not be warm enough.

Makeup looks great too. How do you keen your eyebrows so immaculate?

The dress looks beautiful and so is the turquoise colour on your walls - do you know what shade it is?

Mrs Amber Apple: on etsy :)

bespokehome: haha occasional tweezing, and eyebrow pencil every day!

Michelle @ The Modernity Project: thanks! It's actually a mint, candy kind of colour but it looks darker in these photos. I can't remember what it's called, though, sorry! x

I love it! I'd love to wear something simple like that in autumn but here in the UK its all about the layers!!
Looking forward to seeing a full length picture, and seeing what you pair it with...

Adore it, but I must comment, that judging by the length and cut of the dress, it isn't "Edwardian", as edwardian dresses were always floor length. Unless this was a child's dress, it can't be edwardian, as womenswear didn't rise above the ankle until the mid 1910's.

Sorry to be such a picky little nuisance, but I study fashion history at university, and I'm sure as a fellow vintage enthusiast you'd be interested to know :)

Laurabell: you're absolutely right! It's a child's dress, I forgot to mention that bit. Not a picky nuisance at all! I love to hear what you have to think, and there will be things that you or other readers might know that I don't, and I hope you always feel free to tell me! :D x
