collars, laneways and autumn-toned dresses

On Tuesday, I had the delight of meeting up with lovely Miss H for lunch. After some good toast and a bit too much coffee, she kindly offered to take some blog pictures for me, on a whim. We found a laneway behind the cafe, perfect for traditional blog pics (well, my kind of traditional blog pics!) and I think she did a great job. Thanks Miss H! Behold the awkward posing that ensued.

It was a warmish, windy Autumn day (I think it's safe to assume that every day in Melbourne is windy) and I'd just got mah roots did – I love it! I hadn't curled it, though, so this is one of the few times I've worn it straight. Thanks to the wind (and the general nature of my super-fine hair) my brushed, smoothed locks were windswept in a most unappealing way – I'm not one of those lucky girls that can do windswept hair, and just look bedraggled instead. Oh well. Such is life. I've had this rust coloured dress for years now, and I do like it's huge, almost Amish collar – and I knew when I bought it that it would look great with red hair... it was a long time in coming, but I knew I'd be a red head! The tights with the gold bow seams are form Forever New, the belt is from Dotti, and the bag and cardigan are from asos. Speaking of the bag, I took some pictures of it to do a "what's in my bag" post, but some of them were blurry and I decided to re-do it all. Let's hope my camera isn't actually sick, and was just having a bad day. We can all have those every now and then. I've also taken some pictures of the clothes on the clothes racks (it was very dark, we'll see how they turn out) and loads of pictures of the late 1930s, early 1940s dresses, too – again, we'll see how they turn out. I look forward to doing these posts. I'll tell you how I care for these old, old dresses and how to date them, too.

And hooray, it's Friday! I'm really looking forward to this weekend, which should involve some more couch (and therefor blog) time than the last one. We'll be seeing some bands, going to a sort-of art opening, and having lunch with some friends. What are you up too?

Love the dress! It reminds me of a dress Barbara Stanwyck wore in Baby Face. Your hair still looks pretty, the colour is perfect. I am going to a jazz bar this weekend, so going to dress like a beatnik, coz I'm a geek like that! xxx

That dress is great! Lovely colour and I thought 'pilgrim' as soon as I saw the collar. Hehe.

That collar is AMAZING. And I love that colour. The photos look fab - I always struggle with blog pics and posing. I always feel so silly - here's me walking whimsically. Now here's me smiling aimlessly. It just looks horrendous. But your shots always look fun and natural.

I adore the gorgeous rust hue of that dress, and that you just knew it would work well with red locks (it does!). I colour my hair red, too, and this shade is one of the very few in the orange spectrum that I can wear (without looking terribly washed out), which makes me love your pretty dress all the more. :)

Oodles of hugs & joyful weekend wishes,
Jessica

Oohh... I love it all. The collar, the stockings and the cardy are tickling my fancy!

How weird is the weather? Only a few degrees make the dfference between dress, and dress/cardy/coat/scarf/gloves.

This outfit is stunning. I like the great whit collar, the bow belt matching the bows on your tights and the black cardie with beads on. For me that's the perfect outfit for autumn. Think you must have got lots of compliments. Best wishes!

Where did you buy these lovely tights? I couldn't find them on the Internet. Probably they even won't be available in Germany.

Hannah: that sounds awesome, hope you had a great time!

ourdailydress: hahaha too funny! :D

Miss Meadows: it's so odd being upside down, season wise! Hope you guys get some good spring and summer weather very soon x

Vivian de Violet: it is lighter now, and I love it :) Although I think I will have to stop myself from going lighter and lighter till I get to white blonde... I think the red colour is an 8, copper, and a tiny bit of dark blonde, something like that? And yay for satchels! haha I'd never think you (or anyone) was copying me if you got a similar or even the same satchel, if you like something what's the problem?! :D xxx Hope your summer stays good!

Miss Tallulah Porkchop: I know, and how cold was the weekend?! brrrr

Miss Maple: hiya, they're from forever new, I think they might have sold out on the website though.

It does look nice, thanks for info :) Mine is a mix of toffee and mahogany blonde (both on 8 level, so quite light as well, but next month Im going to mix it with a bit of copper blonde as well, because it looks more like blonde than red right now. Awe, white blonde is something Ive always wanted to get, so I could try lavender and other pastel colours, good luck, cant wait to see when you get it :)

Im glad you dont mind, your blog is very inspiring and gave me loads of ideas, :)

xx

Azirenna: Hi! Yes, it was from asos but it was early in the year so I don't know if it is still on there any more! I am sure there are similar though :) x

Do you perhaps know the brand name of the purse so I can search for their other products? Thanks!
