Fashionopolis 2012

yellow dots b
On Saturday I hopped out of bed fairly early and headed down to the city for Fashionopolis, a huge gathering of fashion bloggers (150 of us!) and industry leaders for a day of fashion blogging insights. I love hearing this topic talked about (funnily enough) and there is always, always, something new to learn about this ever evolving thing that we do: blogging. Our host was Lady Melbourne, who, together with NuffNang, put this great day together.

Early starts need coffee. Ok, it wasn't that early, but still, coffee is one of any day's first priorities. We'd been told it might get a little cold later in the day, so I wore my vintage yellow gloves.

The flowers were in yellow, too. Domain Flowers put together some really cute arrangements, which would have been especially challenging given the size of the venue, the number of place settings, and OH the fact that it was the day before Mother's Day!

Lady Melbourne is a great host and had lots of info to share.

I love terrariums, and have been meaning to make some forever. Maybe there's a green thumbed weekend coming up for me... The little eggs on patches of grass were a cute touch. I couldn't help myself, I had to pick up an egg and give it a little shake, and yes – I think they were real! I think.

The venue was pretty cool. I'd heard a lot of good things about it but this was my first time at 1000 Pound Bend. I don't have the pound sterling symbol on my keyboard, which is very strange for this ex-London girl.

Other people had the same need for coffee – and yellow! – as I did.

And then we were kindly treated to more coffee during the breaks, which was delicious. Thank you!

Sweet treats, too! This is beautiful Leeyong, who matched her biscuit to her amazing outfit, and wrote a brilliant post about the day's events here.

Leeyong's post also mentions some points raised during the day regarding monetizing blogs, and goes on to talk about the balance of blogging/doing/working/life that we are all trying to find. I am so pleased that bloggers can earn money doing something they love, if they are able to keep their content authentic and honest. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!

Finally, thank you everyone for Fashionopolis! It really was a fascinating day – and fun too! Let's do it again, soon!

How exciting! Right now life is pretty much too busy for me to attend something like that here in the States, but it is on my to-do list for the future.

I think if one does keep a blog going consistently and keeps the content, as you say, authentic and honest, the monetizing will come. Of course, one could say no, but blogging takes a lot of time and hard work, even if it is something we love! So why not be rewarded for expertise and time!

With my blog, I am happy to accept ads (and do) if it is something I feel comfortable with and in support of. To me, blogging is one more art that a person can become skilled in, making it fulfilling as a hobby and an income producer too!
