corals and pinks and vintage stripes and perfumes

floral coral chanel coco mauve hair coral floral c About a month ago, I attended the Nuffnang launch of Nuffnang x, and got to spend a lovely couple of hours with some of my favourite Melbourne bloggers. It's funny looking back at these pics, as I remember this was the first day it was warm enough this spring to have bare legs. And to think it's been so cold since then..!

This was the week after getting back from Tasmania, and I couldn't wait to do my hair. I had some regrowth to attend to, plus going swimming had turned my hair a rather unflattering (and unwanted!) bright yellow. I was too tired to do it that night, so I just put some purple and pink through the ends instead, to counter at least some of that yellow. I really liked the soft pink it went.

I did not like having an allergic reaction to something (no, it's not the hair dye, I've been fine with that at other times... the research continues) that was so bad my right eye swelled up enough to affect my vision. For an idea of how it was, look up Bear Grylls and his reaction to a bee sting. After wolfing down all the antihistamine I could get my hands on and still walk, I had to style my hair over my right eye. Yes, it was that bad! Thankfully my eye did start to settle down pretty quickly. I hope, and I like to think, it was more alluringly Veronica Lake peek-a-boo than emo. Don't tell me I'm wrong.

I did like wearing my vintage sundress and vintage cardigan with my blue Gorman t-bar wooden sole platforms. I also liked how my perfume matched my dress and my nails so well. It was such a nice bit of early spring sunshine that afternoon. mauve hair coral floral b mauve hair coral floral f chanel coco coral mauve hair coral floral d mauve hair coral floral e me cecylia candice bossming nuffnang mauve hair coral floral a

So do you do your hair yourself? Good work, I don't dare to. and yes, it is impossible to keep the hair nice if in pools and sun!

Such a pretty dress! I suppose you have replaced, or at least tried omitting, your eye cosmetics? I know that they can get contaminated & cause trouble... although I'm sure you've tried everything already and I'm stating the obvious.
Love the pink hair, too...

Your dress is so lovely, coral really suits you! I love the hair, the pink definitely brought a softer tone, and don't worry, from the picture you cannot see the swollen hair and you definitely look more Veronica Lake than emo!

That dress is gorgeous. It looks perfectly autumnal to me (even though I know it's not Autumn for you) and I would love to wear it with bit winter boots and stomp around in some leaves.

Also you have the coolest room! I love your mirror and the stepped shoe stand!

Oh no, I'm sorry that you had to contend with that. How are you feeling now? As someone with ridiculously sensitive skin, I can fully relate to your mysterious allergic reaction and the hours (or days) of racking your brain that ensues as you try to figure out what on earth might have caused it.

Fingers crossed that whatever it was proves to just be a flukey one time exposure and you won't face that kind of reaction again.

Anonymous: no, it was just a blog name :)

Gaby - Hopeless Lingerie: it has made me feel so supremely organised, it's great! Do it :)

Mrs Advocat: thanks! Glad you don't, I don't recommend bleaching your own hair!

OrigamiGirl: you're right, the olive flowers are very Autumny!

Frances: I've omitted and re-introduced everything I can think of, and it still happened again on sunday night! :< Bah, so frustrating!

Jessica Cangiano: thanks :) Still trying to work it out, as it happened again :o

Great dress.

I have a rule - tights for 28 degrees and under, bare legs anything above that.

I love your hair! What dye do you use? And I had the same thing happen to my eyes and I can't figure out what did it either! :-/ I work in a medical spa though so if I ever figure out what happened to me I'll let you in on the cure! :-)

That dress is just lovely! The funny thing is that every time I walk past Gorman in the city I always think of your blog!

Do you use anything to counter the brassy/yellow tones that can pop up? If not you should try clairol shimmer lights shampoo! It's kept my champagne hair yellow free in between colors much better than just regular shampoo for years and I bet would be great for your lilac color as well :)

Loving how your hair looks here, the dip-dye looks just awesome. I am seriously considering going to short hair after I've finished a musical I'm in (drastic hair cuts forbidden). I'm wanting something new, and yours looks perfect (in every colour) so hopefully mine will turn out something similar :D and I haven't yet taken the opportunity to rave about that dress! Ah!

Lauren: thanks for the tip! Since these pics I've been using D Lorenzo shampoo, a different toner plus the purple dyes, so I am completely brassy free! :D

Blogger Meg Eileen Carroll: thanks! But those roots, and that yellow..! All under control now :) Ooh, going for the chop is exciting!

Harlow Darling: haha that's ace! :D

Miss Tallulah Porkchop: good rule! I had bare legs today, and too cooooold..! x

Q- What are your top 5 places to find vintage clothing?

x

esme and the laneway said...

Kalaurie Karl-Crooks: thanks! I can't think of five off the top of my head but my favourite it etsy :)

Ah the roots. I'm having the same dilemma - where does that yellow come from and why does it seem to stay in my hair longer than the purple dye? WHY?

Gorgeous!

What color is your paint?!

Brooke said...

What hair dye do you use to do your pastels? And is that lady danger red or a different one?
