I am starting to feel Christmas-y here at last! I love Christmas in the middle of winter, and getting used to it being the opposite, in the Australian summer, is taking some getting used to. I have never been able to reconcile the traditional decorations with long hot days. But this time, for the first time ever, we have a Christmas tree! Or, rather, a ladder. John's late father built this ladder about 40 years ago and it holds sentimental value for us. So far we have added some fairy lights, some (fake, sadly, but it is more practical) ivy and some good old glittery baubles, and tomorrow I plan to add some more plants and flowers – real ones. I think I am going to enjoy Christmas this year!

A little wooden Christmas decoration our friends gave us, that they got from a German (?) night market last year. A cute little festive bambi.

Haha, so cute. Why no tree thought? I here a lot of AUstralians saying they can never find a tree. Maybe it's just by luck, but there is a place selling them in my neighbourhood, so we get real trees every year(and subsequently a real MESS). I love how the ladder is sentimental though, and thus means more than a tree. :D
Aww, so sute <3
Oh, what an adorable idea!

I love your Xmas ladder! Such a fabulous and lovely idea.
Merry Xmas lovely lady!

I remember when I moved into my first flat I decorated a pot plant. I love your "tree". Merry Christmas.
your 'tree' is lovely :)
Merry Christmas!
Oh my, this has to be the cutest x-mas tree in history. I love the idea of you using this ladder to create something so beautiful and practical. It is the best x-mas decoration I have seen ever. You are very creative and I love this! Wonderful post, I cant wait to see the finishing result.

Your ladder is much nicer than a tree! It's different and you dont have to pack it away - just change the decorations :-) I'm sure you've got ideas for what to put on it after xmas.
How does Babycat go with the decorations? Jonny considered getting a tree just to see what the cats would do. Hehee
Meg Eileen Carroll: I love Christmas trees but to me they are a winter thing and they seem so out of place in summer. I'd consider having one in July though – but then again I think Babycat might spend her waking hours trying to knock it down! ;D
Angelica, Angelica: thanks :)
ourdailydress, Natalie_vintage_girl: thanks!
Little Scribbler: sh*t I wear, think, eat, drink: I'm sure it's been done before but it looks nice :)
Teresa: thanks! I've seen the decorated ladder idea a lot so I don't know why I didn't think to do a Christmas version sooner!
Debs: Cute idea! Merry Christmas to you too :)
Vickie: thanks!
The adventures of Mr and Mrs Jaime: thanks, that's high praise indeed!
Esz: yay, we're going to keep it up without the baubles :) Babycat has shown utter disdain for the decorations, even when I dropped the baubles and they went bouncing along the floor, or the ends of the plastic ivy twitched enticingly in a draft. I think Jonny is on to something – I'd love to know what your kitties thought of a tree and it's "toys"!
Cute idea! This is my first "summer Christmas" in NZ, and it's taking me some getting used to! I'm used to coldy, snowy days around Christmastime!
Merry Christmas to you!
Beautiful tree! On this day before Christmas I wish you Merry Christmas!
What an splendidly creative idea! I think this is one of my favourite new decor ideas I've come across this year. Marvelous job of thinking (and decorating) outside of the box!
From the bottom of my heart, I wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season!
♥ Jessica
I love that you have decorated the ladder, as christmas time is all about family time and remembering loved ones and the German markets are the best! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! :)
I have seen a few alternative xmas "trees" this year - love them all :o)
It looks lovely!
